The award has been instituted to recognize and honour excellence in energy conservation practices, as well as accomplish a consistent reduction in specific energy consumption. TSLP achieved an overall reduction of 12% electrical energy and 15% thermal energy over the FY19 consumption figures. This was made possible primarily through the implementation of several in-house improvements and SHIKHAR initiatives e.g. reduction of MBF fuel & DRI coal consumption, increase in waste heat power generation from DRI & Coke Oven, Steelmaking in electric arc furnace by oxygen blowing (resulting in zero power & electrode consumption), reduction of an idle run of the equipment’s across the plant, reduction of power consumption in MBF & SMS by power factor improvement, etc.

Besides the implementation of several innovative products & practices, the company has also inculcated a culture of energy conservation in the plant through several programs & campaigns which, among others, include a celebration of an energy conservation week, promoting & rewarding suggestions from the employees etc.
